Zune Eats Creative's Meager Lunch, Grabbing 4 Percent of MP3 Player Market

Microsoft's Zune picked up a percentage point in the MP3 player market, bringing its share to a whopping four percent, with two million units sold (total). Microsoft has said from the start that it will stick with the Zune for as long as it takes for the player to gain traction, and it looks like that's starting to happen.

Apple and Creative could sign peace deal

Apple and Creative Technology may find an out-of-court settlement to their current dispute regarding the way iPods allow users to navigate stored content.

The two companies are currently pursuing a litigation paper trail, with Creative suing Apple over claimed abuse of a patent it holds for user interface, while Apple has hit back with patent claims of its own. Apple claimed seven abuses relating to the use of icons, and the display and editing of data.

Apple Computer has filed a second copyright lawsuit and a trade complaint in the US against Creative Technology. This is the latest in a string of legal challenges and counter challenges between the two rival makers of portable media devices. In its latest lawsuit, Apple claims Creative is infringing three patents relating to using icons, and displaying and editing data.
