What a great website!!
Hi everyone! It is just great that there is finally a site for all of us who gotta have some music to workout to. I stumbled onto fitPod while on LibSyn checking my stats. I see djSteveboy hangs out here too. I'm finally getting ready to get back into producing shows for Pedal Radio. It's been a long crazy summer - remodeling and moving into a new house, changing jobs and running and riding every chance I get. As soon as Mixmeister sends me the keys for my new copy of Propaganda, I'll post my latest show.
I'm just a middle-aged jogger and benthead trying to stay sane and in shape by running and riding. In the past there was hardly any podcasts out there to ride on the trainer to. Now it's finally catching on! This has motivated me to add to the mix so we all don't get stoned-bored listening to the same stuff all of the time. It's going to be another long winter in Wisconsin, so I'm loading up for the indoor rides.
Gyms Push the Creative Envelope
By CANDICE CHOI - Washington Post
Get off that boring old treadmill and belt out a cheesy Elvis song on the exercise bike, instead. Strut around in 3-inch heels or work up a sweat on the pogo stick. As gyms compete with dance studios and adult sports leagues to hold on to members with ever-shorter attention spans, run-of-the-mill aerobics and other classes are getting an injection of creativity. Harold Fyvie, top, puts his instructor Marc Purtell in a hold during a Brazilian jujitsu class at Excel 180. As gyms compete with dance studios and adult sports leagues to hold on to members with ever-shorter attention spans, run-of-the-mill aerobics classes are getting an injection of creativity. So, classes like Harold Fyvie, top, puts his instructor Marc Purtell in a hold during a Brazilian jujitsu class at Excel 180 in Albany, N.Y., on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2006. As gyms compete with dance studios and adult sports leagues to hold on to members with ever-shorter attention spans, run-of-the-mill aerobics classes are getting an injection of creativity. So, classes like "Karaoke Spin," "Pogo Bootcamp," and "Stiletto Strength," are springing up in gyms across the country.
Do spinning classes help you burn fat quickly?
By Outside Magazine's Chris Carmichael
Spinning classes can help you burn fat quickly, depending on the kind of class the instructor is leading. Don't buy into the idea that low-intensity exercise (riding at a low heart rate or exertion level) is going to get you into a "fat burning" zone. The truth is, you burn fat at every intensity level, and when you exercise at a high and sustainable exertion level, like 70 to 75 percent of your maximum, you're burning a lot of calories and a lot of fat each minute.
Don't Hit on Me, Mr. Goodbody
By MELENA RYZIK of the New York Times
WOW, David Atencio thought the first time he entered 24 Hour Fitness, a gym in San Leandro, Calif., in the early 1980's. Look at this! Look at that! Rolling Stone magazine gave the game away about health clubs in a 1983 article. The object of Mr. Atencio's wonder was not the high-tech elliptical trainer or the juice bar — neither existed yet. Instead Mr. Atencio, then in his 20's, was focused on something that had an even greater impact on the fitness industry: women.
"Man, did you see that girl?" Mr. Atencio recalls telling his friends as they scouted for potential dates. "You met people, you dated people," he recalled wistfully. "It felt more like a nightclub. There was a lot of endorphins kicking off, a lot of wildness in the first couple years. Were women at my beck and call? Yes — I taught aerobics!"
