How to Turn Your Ipod Into A Motivational Timer

| |

Could you use a burst of focused motivation?

Studies show people with ADD/ADHD respond well to using timers. A student might set a timer for 10 minutes with a goal of finishing as much homework in that 10 minute stretch as she can. Professionals can use timers in the same way setting them for 30 minutes and working to intensity for 30 minutes and then taking a break. Personally, I’ve been known to knock out incredible amounts of work when a 15 minute pressure is on.

Workout to Vermont tunes

from burlingtonfreepress.com

Madonna’s “Hung Up” throbs through the speakers as fitness instructor Ann MacDonald shouts out prompts for squats, lunges and push ups, her cues in sync with the Material Girl’s bass line. MacDonald, 43 of Burlington, has been a fitness instructor for 25 years and formerly owned the Body Garage in Burlington. At her kickboxing and body sculpting classes at the Shelburne Athletic Club, she intentionally teaches to the tempo of the music, synchronizing musical beats with workout moves.

Getting fit...with personalized fitness plans

| | | | | | | |

When it comes to getting physically fit, it took me a long time to discover what works and doesn't--for me personally. I'm not saying I'm in perfect shape or anything, but I've learned a few things over the years as I searched for a kind of lifestyle that could help me feel better, control weight, and keep my heart in good condition.

Music has been a big part of it, and getting an iPod was a big "a-ha" moment for me. Suddenly, my morning walk--something I love for so many reasons--became a kind of groovy march as I created my own playlists that take me up to optimum heart rate tempos and back down. And spinning turned from drudge to dream with my personal fitness playlist running through my head. I got some noise-eliminating earbuds and soon, I couldn't hear the whirring of the bike stand. Just music, heart beat, and sweat. Very special.
